Women arrested in ‘cash attack’ on Lorient star Yoane Wissa, who may have permanent eye problems after assault
A woman has been arrested following an unprovoked attack on Lorient star Yoane Wissa at her home.
The 24-year-old underwent emergency surgery following Thursday’s assault, which saw him suffer severe burns to his eyes.
L’Equipe reports that an anonymous 32-year-old woman was arrested over the weekend for the cash attack on the DR Congo striker.
Reports in France claim that the woman in question, who is also suspected of another assault and kidnapping of an infant, showed up at Wissa’s home Thursday afternoon to ask for her autograph for her son .
Wissa thankfully obligated her as an act of “good grace”, but the same woman reportedly returned at midnight and entered his home without permission.
Confronting the lady, Wissa would have had some sort of hot liquid thrown in her face.
Following the incident, Lorient condemned the act of violence, while providing an update on their player’s current status.
A press release from the club said: âFC Lorient learned this morning that Yoane Wissa was the victim of an assault at his home the night before being hospitalized in emergency. Yoane needs to have surgery today.
âThe club, in shock, want to show their support for Yoane and his family and wish his player a speedy recovery.
âFC Lorient is counting on justice to allow the conviction of the author of this attack.
As Wissa returned home after the incident, it is understood that the injuries he sustained overnight could lead to serious eye problems.
L’Equipe further report that medics told the forward they couldn’t guarantee he would regain all of his visual activity, putting his professional football career in doubt.
