National Day of Remembrance in Miami – NBC 6 South Florida
Miami Gardens commemorated National Day of Remembrance on Saturday with a moving ceremony on Saturday. It was about remembering the victims and discussing ways to prevent future tragedies. Sometimes there was barely a dry eye in the room.
Children left without a parent, or parents.
âIf tears could build a staircase, I would go straight up to heaven and bring you back again,â said a child whose father was killed. âSince you will never be forgotten. “
Miami Gardens mayor Rodney Harris, who knows his community’s pain all too well.
âThis young man here was like a son,â Harris said, biting back tears. âJames Anderson. He was like a son to me.
Family members of the victims came together to honor those who now live in the pictures and memories.
âSomeone just committed suicide for no reason,â said Kara Lee, whose son was killed in 2020. âBeing [at the Day of Remembrance gathering], it’s nothing that words can express.
Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava said the county was working to save lives.
âWe turn those memories into actions to make sure we stop the violence,â said Levine Cava. âOperation Summer Heat removed more than 1,000 criminals from the streets. “
