When Patrick Wisdom went 1-3 against the Dodgers to start this week, he lamented what he considered a bad day at home plate for Bear cubs director David Ross.

“I’m like, ‘I don’t have a lot of punches against Clayton Kershaw,’ Ross said.

The day after his single against Kershaw, Wisdom hit a two-run equalizer in Milwaukee as a pinch hitter. Major League Baseball named Wisdom National League Rookie of the Month for June on Friday.

He recorded a slugging percentage of 0.616 and 0.950 OPS during the month, with eight home runs and 16 RBIs.

“Wisdom carried us for a while,” said Ross.

Although still considered a rookie, Wisdom, 29, has played for three different MLB teams since making his debut in 2018. Former first-round draft pick, Wisdom’s defense at third base and cannon an arm have also garnered praise from the Cubs this season.

“I don’t think you really know what you’re getting until you see someone everyday,” Ross said this week, “and Wis has been great.”

Wisdom was back in the lineup on Friday in Cincinnati after leaving the Cubs 7-15 loss to the Brewers early Wednesday. Wisdom, who left the game with neck pain and a bruised left eye from a collision in the second inning, showed no immediate signs of concussion, according to the Cubs.
